Minnesota Dog and Cat Photography Studio
"We love our pets because they do such cute, adorable and funny things" says Bob Dale, a Minnesota dog and cat photography studio owner.Plus, they are usually an integral part of our family. For all of these reasons, you probably want to capture your beloved pet with great pet pictures. Here are some tips to help you get great pictures of your best friend:
- You are going to have to train your pet to obey some simple commands such as stand, stay, lay down or sit.
- You will not get good results if you wake your pet up out of a deep sleep and forcing him to face the camera. Instead, be patient and wait until your pet is either playing or relaxing by a nicely lit window. As such, you are going to need to have your camera nearby at all times.
- You should use natural lighting. If there is enough of this light, then you should not use your flash, which may cause your pet to either squint or run away.
- If your pet is camera-shy, try being as discreet as possible when taking their photograph. Of course, this can be easier if you have a cat because they have shorter attention spans. Nevertheless, they may still know that you are up to something. Whatever you do, try to capture your pet in the best 'light' possible.
- If you want to have your pet show either a thoughtful or playful look, then have a friend or family member help you. For cats you will find that a string with catnip or honeysuckle will work great while squeaky toys work better for dogs.
- Be patient and whenever you get frustrated, take a break. Photographing your pet should be both fun and enjoyable. Remember that your pets can pick up on your stress and may begin associating this with the camera. Simply put, do not put pressure on your pet to face the camera.
- Make sure that you take your pet's coloring into consideration whenever you are choosing backgrounds. Remember that the less 'busy' the scene, the better.
- Be prepared to take a lot of bad photographs in order to get a really good one. This is why it is best to use a digital camera that gives you lots of room for trial and error. With a digital camera you can also select your favorite portrait photographs and dispose of the rest.
- Above all else, make sure that you have fun. Before you know it you will have some great looking pet portraits.
