Minneapolis Black & White Portrait Photography Studio

Today’s digital technology makes transforming color images into black and white photographic prints a rather straightforward task for a Minneapolis black & white portrait photography studio. However, this does not mean that you should throw away all of your rolls of black and white film.

Many photographers still regard black and white photography as a favorite medium. This is because in these photographs dull landscape scenes become a lot more dramatic.

A lot of those subjects that are shot in color can be taken with black and white film as well. In fact, these types of portraits are still widely taken by professional photographers throughout the world.

One of the most popular uses of black and white photography is with wedding photographs. Many couples today are opting to have at least some black and white images because they really capture the mood and emotions of their special moment.

Black and white landscape photography is also becoming popular. It is more suitable for taking images when the day is either too dull or too bright. So, whenever you are photographing a scene that does not have an entire spectrum of different colors, you should consider viewing it as a black and white photograph.

Here are some things that you should keep in mind as you get started with black and white photography:

  1. New opportunities are opening up as black and white photography is becoming more and more popular with the general public.
  2. Black and white photography has the tendency to make some photographs look more like the fine works of art that are sold in art galleries.
  3. Using black and white film when shooting daytime landscape photographs will add impact to your photography.
  4. With black and white photography you also get the thrill of using your own dark room, developing your own film and processing your own images.

Of course, the same principles for color photography also apply to black and white photography. So, if you have mastered the art of photography, then taking pictures with a roll of black and white film should be easy for you to do.

Regardless as to what type of photography you do, filters are still really important. Of course, there are fewer filters available for you to use with black and white photography but one that you should definitely use is the polarizing filter. You will find that this filter is very effective for black and white photography and color photography where it makes the sky stand out and also gives your landscape images serious impact. Plus this filter also helps to reduce glare from the sun’s rays, which is very helpful for both urban and architectural photography.

You will find that exposure with black and white photography is a little easier because this type of film handles light somewhat easier than color film does. This will give you more room for error while also allowing you to capture detail whenever you underexpose it. However, if you overexposure the film, you will find that the range is greater as between 5 and 7 stops are allowed whereas with color film you are limited to only 1 stop each way.

This does not mean that you can become lethargic whenever you are taking black and white photographs. It simply means that if you do make a mistake the results may be acceptable.
