Your camera lens is a very important part of taking good photographs. So, while you may be willing to spend thousands of dollars to purchase a good camera, you really need to make sure that you do not neglect the lens. Instead of spending all of your money on the camera and ignoring the lens, make sure that you spend equally as much money on the lens as you do on the camera.
So, why would you want to do this? Simply put, because your camera simply holds your photograph. It is the lens itself that views what you are photographing so that you will be able to get a sharp, clear photo. Of course, when it comes to a compact digital camera you cannot change the lens. Therefore, in this case you need to do it right the first time: ensure that the camera that you are purchasing has a good lens before you purchase it. This means that you are not going to want to purchase a plastic digital camera lens because it will not have the clarity that a glass lens is able to offer you.
If you are just getting started with photography, you should know that good composition is also quite important. This is important because when you are just starting out with this hobby you probably do not have the money to purchase an expensive top-of-the-line lens and this is fine because you can still take great pictures this way. Of course, this is not to discount the importance of a good quality lens but to simply state that you should only add to your lens collection whenever you have a specific need for a particular lens and when you do, make sure that you do your homework first to find the lens that fits both you and your camera.
