Holiday Photo Tip
November 23, 2007
Here’s one of my TOP SECRET PHOTO TIPS I reserve for only my best friends……and I’m spilling the beans to my most devout readers.
When amateur photographers take a photo of family or friends at holiday gatherings, they only take one photo………pros always take at least TWO. That’s it. Pretty simple, huh?
If the group is larger than 3 people, I will take three or four photos so I catch the best expressions and increase my odds of everybody’s eyes being OPEN.
Take more photos of the group and you will increase the odds of getting better photos!
Make Your Photos Into Great Gifts
October 14, 2007
Today it seems as though life passes by rather quickly. It seems as though we watch our children grow up really fast, right before our eyes. Now there is a great thing that you can do to surround yourself with cherished photographs in fun ways.
There are a lot of different custom photography gifts that you could purchase but the most common include calendars, photo books and greeting cards. Of course, each of these very special gifts are best suited for different people. In order to see which one may be best for you, let’s take a look at each of them.
First, the custom photography calendars are large, premium calendars printed on the same heavy paper that any other calendar is printed on then held together with something like white coil binding. Herein you can choose what photographs you want to use for each month and what month the calendar starts with, making it even more versatile and useful for you. It is also nice to note that there are also different sizes available, depending upon your needs.
Secondly, you can purchase a photo book wherein your personal pictures turn into treasured keepsakes. These are great if you want to create a family heirloom and you can choose from various styles, colors and covers for these books.
Third, there are high-quality custom photo greeting cards that are perfect for any occasion. Here you can choose both the image and the greeting that you want to use. Usually these cards are available on both 5×7″ and 4×8” heavy card stock and come with matching envelopes.
As you can see, any of these things would make great gifts. Of course, they would also be wonderful to have around so that you can view your cherished photos whenever you want.
I have a great website for you that will help you get started with making a digital photo heritage book. Visit http://www.photoalbummakers.com. Click on “Guide To Storybooking” and they will show you how easy it is to start your very first book.
Scrapbooking Layout Tips
September 19, 2007
If you are just starting to scrapbook, you may find it difficult to create a scrapbook layout.
Here are some easy ideas that you can use:
1. If you use a patterned paper layout, do not use one whose pattern is larger than the smallest photographed head.
2. For making a bold effect on your layout you should use large letter tiles. This can be done with stamps, stencils, embroidering or even calligraphy.
3. Handprinting your page can provide a unique layout. You can use acrylic paints, colored pens, watercolors or crayons for this.
4. It is possible to create a page that looks like the front page of a newspaper. This works best for those pages that focus upon significant events. Make sure that you use a large text for the headline and place your photograph either on the side or at the middle of the page.
5. Rub-on transfers can be both easy and tricky to use. They are easy because all you have to do is rub it on for an instant layout. However, they are tricky because it takes practice to achieve a perfect transfer.
6. If you want to create a layout that has a focal point to it, then you should start with the photo that you want to use as the focal point and then move outwards. focal point should be a large photo so that the viewer has a starting point then the other 3 photos can be arranged diagonally around this photograph or you can place 2 small photographs on the sides of the bigger 1.
7. It is also possible and popular to age the paper. This can be done by damping the paper, then ironing it to dry or by rolling it into a ball to make it look wrinkled before sanding it with a really fine grained sand paper.

Getting Started In Scrapbooking
September 13, 2007
Scrapbooking simply has to do with keeping those precious memories that you always want to be able to recall. With a scrapbook this can be done in a very meaningful way that simple pictures cannot do. This is because along with the pictures your notes, captions and journal entries can help you to always be connected to those precious moments you have had.
In order to start scrapbooking you are going to have to feel comfortable with letting your own personality shine through in your scrapbook. Here is where your personal need to be utilized and fads need to be avoided. However, if you are finding that this is really difficult to do, then you can always borrow ideas from other scrapbookers.
Something that is helpful in scrapbooking is creating your very own mood board. Herein you can place your concepts into more tangible mediums. If you choose to do this, you should not be too critical of yourself. Instead, flip through magazines and find pictures and images that you are attracted to, tear it out and place it on your mood board.
If you are having trouble with color combinations, try to find a group of shades that you can manipulate and mix into varying combinations. This will provide you with a variety of ideas to use whenever you feel uninspired or as though no color seems to be working for you. Otherwise, you should feel comfortable to go ahead and experiment with a variety of colors.
These ideas should help you to get started on your first scrapbooking page. Of course, there are many more details, ideas, concepts and techniques than this that are involved with scrapbooking but these will get you started. Once you get started you will get hooked and begin picking these other ideas up along the way.
How To Get Started Ordering Your Photo Prints Online
September 7, 2007
It use to be, not that long ago, that you use to have to take your photographs to a photo center if you wanted to get them printed out. This was the only way in which you could get your pictures printed out. These photo centers did a good job of providing people with professionally printed photographs. Today they can also print out your digital photographs for you as well. However, with the rise of digital cameras and digital printers you can now print out your own photographs from your home printer.
If you choose to print out your own photographs there are some supplies available on the market that will make this “job” easier for you to do. For instance, many companies sell professional photography paper, in both glossy and matte, that will make your photographs look as though you had them professionally printed. In order to do this though you are going to also need to have a really good printer. Otherwise you may as well take them to the store to have them printed. Of course, taking them to a photo center will also take up some of your time until there was the advent of online picture printing.
Now you can easily register for an account, upload your photographs and have your pictures printed and mailed to you from any of the many online sites that do this today. Each of these sites has something “special” to offer to get you in the door. Plus you will find that most of the prices online are quite similar to the photo centers in your neighborhood but they will require a lot less time from you.
We have used SnapFish for some of our fun/travel photos. They do a very nice job on their color printing and they will mail them to you very quickly. Click on the ad below to give them a try.
