Holiday Photo Tip
November 23, 2007
Here’s one of my TOP SECRET PHOTO TIPS I reserve for only my best friends……and I’m spilling the beans to my most devout readers.
When amateur photographers take a photo of family or friends at holiday gatherings, they only take one photo………pros always take at least TWO. That’s it. Pretty simple, huh?
If the group is larger than 3 people, I will take three or four photos so I catch the best expressions and increase my odds of everybody’s eyes being OPEN.
Take more photos of the group and you will increase the odds of getting better photos!
The 7 Day Photography Challenge
August 21, 2007
Everybody loves photography. The challenge many people have when taking photographs is remembering how their camera operates. I would relate it to a computer software program that you don’t use very often. It’s hard to remember how it works. Same thing with cameras. If you used your camera every day, you would have it’s operation burned in your brain.
So what’s the solution? I’m going to give you a 7 day challenge. Take your camera with you every day for the next 7 days and take at least 7 photographs per day. That shouldn’t be too hard. The benefits will be great.
What will you photograph? How about just everyday life. Who are you friends at work? What do you drive by every day that somebody from out of town would think is really cool? Photograph your children and your friends. Then send some of those photographs to the people that you photographed. Everyone loves getting photographs.
The great thing about photographs is that they are the threads of our life. It’s part of our human connection. It’s a small gift that you give to others. It’s saying that you value someone by taking their photograph. And their are other benefits you get. You get to “see” differently each day by noticing your surroundings more;being more “aware”. Plus it’s a great benefit to learn something new each day.
It’s only 7 photo’s per day. Who’s important enough in your life to photograph?
I would really like to hear about your 7 day journey. Please post your comments here at the bottom of the page.

Pet Photography: Tips For Success
August 9, 2007
Growing in popularity, pet photography poses quite a challenge. Once mastered, however, the final images can be very rewarding to the customer. How does a photographer go about shooting pets to get the desired results?
Patience is one of the primary keys to success. Unlike humans, pets will not obey specific commands on how to pose for a picture. As a result, it can be a bit tricky to get a pet in a needed position. Aside from patience, photographers must also be able to improvise, as there is no guarantee that a pet will remain still in the time needed to take a shot.
Shooting in accordance with the size of the pet is also crucial in obtaining quality photos. For smaller animals, it may be necessary to stand farther away in case of any sudden movement. Larger animals may require the use of a wide angle lens to capture the full body of the subject. In addition, you may have to adjust your approach so that you are working at eye level with the animal. Be careful not to accidentally capture any unwanted background distractions that could negatively affect the final product.
Several safety precautions should be taken as well. For a bird, closing all windows and doors is absolutely necessary prior to taking the animal out of its cage. Dogs should be handled carefully as well. The owner should be present at all times so that the whole process goes smoothly.
Lastly, rewarding the animal is a great way to make sure that it cooperates. Do not hesitate to use bait to lure the subject into a desired position. Make sure to get the owner’s approval before giving any type of food to the pet, and it may help ease the process if the owner provides any type of rewarding treat so that you can focus on shooting the image.
Great pet photography is a very rewarding market, there are evidently a number of measures that should be taken to assure that the shooting process is completed safely, smoothly, and effectively. Make sure that you have the owner sign all the necessary release forms so that you can begin to sell the final images that you produce. After that, enjoy your final work and start promoting to the various magazines and publication companies in your neighborhood.
